About the Program

West High School is proud to offer girls basketball. The Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union sanctions our high school sports for girls. Our teams compete in the Missouri River Conference. Through involvement in athletics, students learn valuable life skills, including teamwork, leadership, and commitment.

Notable Individual Achievements  

2018-2019 
Bricelyn Comstock ranked ninth in Sioux City’s 5-Player scoring history with 670 points. 

2017-2018 
Coach Boetger earned her 100th win in her coaching career at West High. 

2016-2017 
Senior Bri Moore ranked ninth in Sioux City’s 5-Player scoring history with 628 points. She was also the leading scorer in Sioux City with an average of 14.5 points per game. 

2015-2016 
Senior Rachel Knutson-Kobold set a new West High girls basketball record with the most made free-throws in a season (122). She also ranked sixth in Sioux City’s 5-Player scoring history with 791 points. 

2014-2015 
Senior Sammie Birkes set two West High girls basketball records with most three-pointers in a high school career (99) and the most three-pointers in a single season (35). She also ranked fourth in Sioux City’s 5-Player scoring history with 975 points. 

2013-2014 
Senior Tanya Meyer broke the all-time leading scorer in the history of the West High girls basketball program with 1,590 points. She was only the third player in Sioux City’s 5-player scoring history to surpass 1,500 career points and she lead the team in scoring for the season. During the 2013-2014 season, she was ranked number one in the state’s 5A class for scoring with 22.4 points per game and ranked fifth in the state’s 5A class for rebounding with 9.3 rebounds per game. She also made McDonald’s All-American Team. 

2012-2013 
Tanya Meyer scored her 1,000th point as a junior. She also set seven new West High girls basketball records.  

  • Most points scored in a single regular season (450). 
  • Free-throw percentage of 10-11 in a game (91%).  
  • 172 total field goals for the 2012-2013 season.  
  • Lead the team with a 79.4% free-throw shooting percentage for the season.  
  • Earned a career-high of points made in a single game against East High (35).  
  • Made the most field goals in a single game (12).
